Someone asked why I mention that my 5 year old is speech delayed. I share to show how far he’s come from being almost nonverbal when he was “supposed” to be talking and also to make sure people know he’s not a typical 5 year old. When my oldest two were 5, I was having conversations with complete sentences with full comprehension from them. That is not typical behavior for Franklin. I cannot have a full conversation with him or talk to him the way I talked with my oldest two at his ages because he simply doesn’t understand. And instead of having someone comment “why does he talk like that, he’s five”, I’d rather they know the situation and not to judge just because I said he’s 5 knowing the majority of 5 year olds are more well spoken than he is.
